New Community Hosts Annual Health Fair

New Community held its annual Health Fair on July 17, 2026. The free, open-to-the-public event connected attendees with health care providers and community organizations while offering free screenings, vaccinations, and valuable health resources.

Veronica Onwunaka, Administrator of the New Community Extended Care Facility, said this was her 19th year organizing the event, which has expanded over time in its offerings.

“Information is everything,” Onwunaka said. “We want to make sure we bring information to the community and get them the resources they need.”

Guests were able to receive flu shots, have their blood pressure checked, get tested for HIV, and access a variety of other health services.

Some of the vendors participating this year included Aetna, All Hearts Collaborative, CareFinders, Catholic Charities, Christine Merveil, Eminence Home Care, Faith Home Healthcare, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, One Stop Career Center, Progressive Home Care, United Healthcare, and Well Care Nurses.

New Community President and CEO Simone Gagneron thanked the vendors for supporting the community, as well as the New Community staff members who organized the event.

“Our NCC teams are here, and they’re dedicated, and they’re passionate,” Gagneron said.

Melba M. Henao, who represented Aetna at the fair, said she enjoys participating in community health events.

“I like interacting with people and learning about them and giving them one piece of information that means so much to them that they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise,” she said.

Quiche B. Jones, Aetna’s Community Development Coordinator, noted that having a variety of health services available in one location is especially beneficial for people who do not have reliable or convenient transportation.

“To have a one-stop shop for resources is ideal,” she said.
